Amiens Cathedral
A UNESCO World Heritage site, Amiens Cathedral is the largest in France. Its sculpted façade, oak stalls and paved labyrinth make it a Gothic masterpiece. The Chroma show, which brings back its original colours at nightfall, has become an unmissable event. On the way out, Place du Don and the pedestrian district pleasantly extend the evening.
Hortillonnages and Saint-Leu
At the heart of the city, the hortillonnages spread three hundred hectares of floating gardens linked by a maze of narrow canals, the rieux. You cruise aboard a horned punt from the upstream port: a moment of rare softness. Just next door, the Saint-Leu district, nicknamed the little Venice of the North, lines up colourful houses, restaurants and waterside terraces.
Jules Verne House and the belfry
Jules Verne lived eighteen years in Amiens: his turreted house on Rue Charles-Dubois can be visited like an explorer’s cabinet. The medieval belfry, a UNESCO site, and Place Gambetta complete the centre. On Lyad, Amiens members share their favourite restaurants, punts and walks: it is up to you to find someone to drift along the rieux with on the next sunny Sunday.
